Over the course of about five years, I developed and practiced the Bible study steps I’m sharing with you on this page! I cannot tell you how using the questions and tools below has transformed my view of God, affirmed His love for me, and helped me to articulate the truths from Scripture to others.
I have taught these steps to many groups of women and have studied them in small group settings and in one-on-one discipleship. Whether you’re studying alone or studying with a group, my simple Bible study steps will help you look at the text through a gospel lens with an eye on God’s character first and foremost before arriving at application safely. The summary statements will ensure that you can articulate what you’ve studied, equipping you to share what you’ve learned with others.

Also, here is a PDF with some tips for studying the Bible in a weekly small group setting: How to Study the Bible in a Group.
You’ll use steps 5-7 of the above document every day until you finish the book you’ve chosen to study. I’ve distilled those steps into the card below, which you can print and put in your Bible or save to your phone for quick access.
Here you can watch me explain the steps and show you how to use them.
Additionally, here is a series of posts on why and how we can study the Bible. There are a couple of video demonstrations included in these posts as well. Look for more on Bible study and spiritual disciplines in my book, Everyday Faithfulness: The Beauty of Ordinary Perseverance.
